Welcome to the Mighty Redcar. In this real-life soap opera, filmed over a year in the North Yorkshire town, we focus on the relationships between two generations - one struggling to fulfil their hopes and dreams, the other trying to give them a leg up, show them the way and convince them that they, and the town, have a future.
Mum and daughter Kat and Kaitlyn have had a tough time over the last few years but have a big summer ahead. Kat is working three jobs to earn enough to keep a roof over their heads, save up for Kaitlyn's college fund and pay for a dress for the biggest night of her life, the school prom.
James is 19, the oldest of seven kids, has no job, no GCSEs and a simple choice to make - work or prison. The council have identified him as high risk of committing crimes and ending up serving time so they are doing everything to keep him on the straight and narrow - including finding him a mentor, Ray, a local businessman who gives James both work and life lessons.
Dylan moved to Redcar when he was 16 - he loves the place as it provides him with the safety and security his home growing up never had. He now lives with his foster mum Wendy, and has one big dream - to become a music star. His motives are not fame and fortune but to earn enough money to bring his younger brother out of foster care to live with him in Redcar.
