Consumer harm report, Goldcar, Insurance and mental health

A new report on threats to consumers from scammers, we investigate the latest complaints about the Spanish car hire company, Goldcar, plus mental health and travel insurance.

National Trading Standards (NTS) says it secured more than 100 criminal convictions and a total of 230 years of prison sentences last year.
That's according to new figures in its Consumer Harm Report for 2018 published today.
The report reveals that NTS prevented more than 拢182 million in losses to consumers and businesses, up a third from the previous year.
It also identifies new threats to consumers from scammers.
We hear from Lord Toby Harris, chair of National Trading Standards.

We investigate the latest complaints about a Spanish car hire company called Goldcar. It's one of the biggest in Europe and was taken over by Europcar at the end of last year. Most of the complaints about Goldcar are about the differences between the advertised prices and what people end up having taken from their cards.
We also hear from people who claim Goldcar's staff are using aggressive sales tactics at the desk to push customers into buying additional insurance they don't want or need.
We speak to Helen Swaffield, a barrister in contract law, about what you can do if you think you've been treated unfairly by a car hire company.

Almost half of people with mental health problems never declare their illness to their travel insurer because it significantly puts up the cost of premiums.
That's according to the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute. It's a charity that does research into the financial difficulties caused by mental health conditions.
They want the regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority, to check travel insurance prices are complying with the 2010 Equality Act.
We speak to Helen Undy from the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute and Malcolm Tarling from the Association of British Insurers.
