John Toal rounds off our highlights from the 23rd West Cork Chamber Music Festival. Featuring music by Brahms, Elizabeth Maconchy and Beethoven, recorded in the rich acoustic of St. Brendan's Church, situated on the main square in the centre of Bantry town.
Pianist Barry Douglas opens the programme with a performance of Brahms鈥� Three Intermezzos, Op.117 and is joined by an international line-up of musicians to close it with Beethoven鈥檚 Quintet for Piano and Winds in E Flat Major, Op.16. They bookend Elizabeth Maconchy鈥檚 String Quartet No.2, performed by the French string quartet Quatuor Danel, composed in 1936.
