This week Jamie's guest is saxophonist, producer and arranger Sly5thAve, who shares his influences and the making of his latest record, an orchestral tribute to Dr Dre.
Jamie's guest is Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, producer and arranger Sly5thAve. He discusses his influences, ranging from John Coltrane to Kendrick Lamar, and his latest record The Invisible Man - an orchestral tribute to Dr Dre.
Before signing to Tru Thoughts in 2016, Sly5thAve released an acclaimed reworking of Herbie Hancock's seminal LP Headhunters alongside Jesse Fischer. He went on to found the ClubCassa Orchestra, and arranged orchestral covers of the likes of Drake and Rihanna. He performed with Prince's live band for 2 years, and currently works with Quantic and supergroup Ghost Note - a collaboration with Snarky Puppy's Robert Searight and Nate Werth.
