Steve Perry chooses the Tracks of My Years

Steve Perry chooses his final Tracks of My Years with music from Sam Cooke and Tom Petty. There's the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster

Steve Perry, former lead singer of the rock band Journey, chooses the Tracks of My Years with music from Sam Cooke and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Last month the legendary singer-songwriter made his long awaited return to the music world with "Traces" his first new album in nearly a quarter of a century. Steve's songs are frequently chosen for soundtracks and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" even played during the closing moments of the hit crime drama series "The Sopranos" back in 2007. Two years later a cover version of the song was done for the hit high school musical show "Glee" which introduced a new generation to Steve's work. In the meantime, he has earned his place in rock history, Rolling Stone magazine naming him one of music's top 100 singers. According to former Journey bassist, Randy Jackson, Steve's voice is one of a kind. He added, "other than Robert Plant, there's no singer in rock that even came close to Steve Perry...the power, the range, the tone - he created his own style, mixing a little Motown, a little Everly Brothers, and a dash of Zeppelin.

Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus another round of PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
