Berlioz and Italy
The Ulster Orchestra, under the baton of Dalia Stasevska, performs two of Berlioz's best-loved works, the love scene from Romeo and Juliet and Harold in Italy with Lise Berthaud.
The wordless Love Scene from Romeo and Juliet begins the concert. Berlioz was enraptured by Shakespeare鈥檚 work all his adult life and this homage to love produced some of the composer鈥檚 most lyrical, rich and magical writing.
大象传媒 Radio 3 marks the 150th anniversary of Berlioz鈥檚 death with a weekend-long celebration. John Toal introduces the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by Dalia Stasevska, as they showcase two of the composer鈥檚 best-loved works.
The Ulster Hall concert concludes with Harold in Italy which describes the adventures of a Romantic hero as he wanders through the Italian countryside: one inspired by Berlioz鈥檚 own travels and written at the suggestion of Paganini. The soloist is former 大象传媒 Radio 3 New Generation Artist, violist Lise Berthaud.
