Can Scotland afford a child smacking ban?

Holyrood's equality and human rights committee has received letters of support from the Church of Scotland, Social Work Scotland and the Law Society of Scotland, amongst others, towards a smacking ban. Some organisations have warned that the introduction of legislation may 'increase demand on child protection services, and the police, to investigate reported incidents of child physical punishment'.
