Troubles prosecutions, and the DUP and the Brexit backstop
Should there be an amnesty for British soldiers - even if it applies to paramilitaries too?
It has been reported at the weekend that army veterans will be protected from prosecution for alleged historic abuses under plans to introduce a 10-year limit on new cases. Defence Sectary Gavin Williamson is expected to bring forward the proposed legislation. It comes amid claims that four army veterans are expected to be charged with murder over the deaths of Bloody Sunday protesters. Stephen got the views of UUP MLA and former solider Doug Beattie, Colonel Richard Kemp and we took your calls.
Also on the programme, the DUP's leader at Westminster, Nigel Dodds, is to sit on a 'star chamber' of Brexit lawyers who will scrutinise changes to the Government's Withdrawal Agreement. It comes amid speculation that the DUP shifted, or are they about to shift, their position on the Brexit backstop. Could the DUP be prepared to accept a time limit on the backstop, rather than ruling it out entirely? And could they sell that to party members? Stephen spoke to News Letter's political editor Sam McBride, DUP MLA Jim Wells, and the deputy leader of the Alliance Party, Stephen Farry.
And, there's many factors people take into account before deciding to bring children into the world: their relationship, their finances, their health, but some people are now also considering the state of the planet. US democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez caused a stir on social media recently by saying it is 'legitimate' for people to not want children because of climate change. Are people really that scared about climate change that they put off having children? Or is it responsible to think of the type of world we could be bringing children into? Stephen got the views of commentators Aileen O' Reilly and Heidi McAlpin.
