Amy Lam茅 is joined by Jonathan Scott to talk about his new book on the Voyager Golden Record, an interstellar mixtape shot into space back in the Summer of 1977.
The Voyager Golden Records were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. The records contain sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth, and are intended for any intelligent extraterrestrial life form, or for future humans, who may find them.
Jonathan Scott is a music writer and self-confessed astronomy geek. He has edited books about Prince, Cher and the San Francisco psych explosion, and written about Nirvana, the Pogues, the Venga Boys, Sir Patrick Moore and Sir Isaac Newton in a variety of magazines.
A broadcaster, performer and writer, Amy has been a regular voice on 6 Music. As well as sitting in for Tom Ravenscroft, Lauren Laverne, Nemone and Steve Lamacq, she has also presented one-off specials. These include the Sunday Service slot last year, where she explored the music that led up to Gay Liberation in the late 1960s, the music that drove the movement forward and the songs that inspired her, as part of 6 Music鈥檚 Loud and Proud season.
