The teenage Mozart

Nicola Benedetti joins the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to play and direct two of Mozart鈥檚 sparkling and well-loved violin concertos, plus music from Grammy-nominated Anna Clyne.

Live from Glasgow, Nicola Benedetti joins the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to play and direct from the violin two of Mozart鈥檚 sparkling and well-loved concertos, written in 1775 when he was just 19. Mozart鈥檚 Concerto No 5 K219 was the last violin concerto he would write, nicknamed the 鈥楾urkish鈥� after certain complex rhythms and col legno effects in the low strings. Mozart performed his Concerto No 3 K216 himself whilst visiting a Germany monastery. He wrote to his father that 鈥楧uring the meal we had some music. ... I played my concerto, which went like oil. Everyone praised my beautiful, pure tone.' Before the interval, another work by Mozart, his 鈥楬affner鈥� symphony, written to celebrate the ennoblement of a family friend Sigmund Haffner. After the interval the SCO strings perform a work by their Composer in Residence, the Grammy nominated Anna Clyne.
