Unusual Instrumentation

Nick Luscombe presents music made by unconventional line-ups. Oud and guitar meet percussion and electronics in a unique quartet of Oren Ambarchi, Mark Fell, Will Guthrie and Sam Shalabi. A Buddhist choir and Christian Meaas Svendsen鈥檚 solo bass investigate the part of Zen philosophy which states that nothing exists as a separate self: everything is inseparable from everything else and always in flux. And there鈥檚 early 80s prog from the Japanese trio Wha-ha-ha who combine jazzy rhythms, laid-back dub synths and percussive jiggery-pokery.
