Kraggerud's Bruch

The 大象传媒 SSO, conducted by Alpesh Chauhan, perform Mahler's Symphony No 5, and are joined by Henning Kraggerud for Bruch's Violin Concerto No 1. Plus a work by Chaya Czernowin.

The 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra and conductor Alpesh Chauhan launch their new orchestral season from Glasgow's City Halls with a performance of music from the very dead centre of the classical music canon.

Mahler's comprehensively emotional Symphony No 5 is preceded by one of the most oft-heard concertos from the classical music charts: Bruch's Violin Concerto. And before that the UK premiere of a piece by Chaya Czernowin: a composer, and aural scrutiniser, who questions the nature of sound and listening in her orchestral miniature, 'Once I blinked nothing was the same.'

Live from City Halls, Glasgow.

Presented by Kate Molleson.
