This week, Mark looks ahead to the 20th annual 大象传媒 Radio 2 Folk Awards, which takes place on Wednesday 16 October at the Bridgewater Hall as part of the Manchester Folk Festival.

Mark also speaks to two members of the new project Rising Up - Peterloo 2019. Commissioned by Manchester Folk Festival, the show is written by Debs Newbold with songs by Sean Cooney from The Young'uns.

Musicians Sam Carter (False Lights), Lucy Farrell (The Furrow Collective) and Jim Molyneux (4Square) are also among the cast. Debs and Jim join Mark to chat about the show and share music from it.

Rising Up - Peterloo 2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, which happened in Manchester close to the present-day Bridgewater Hall. It draws parallels between struggles of the past and present.

At St. Peter's Field, Manchester, in 1819, armed cavalry charged at peaceful protesters who had gathered to call for fair pay for textile weavers and much-needed voting reform. Eighteen people (including children) were killed and 400-700 were injured.
