Episode 16
It is the Celebrity MasterChef Finals Week and the four remaining cooks continue to battle for the title.
It's finals week, and the four remaining celebrity cooks continue the battle for the title. Over the next three nights the celebrities are pushed to their culinary limits in their bid to become the 2019 champion.
To warm them up for what’s ahead, in tonight’s first challenge the celebrities must show their dainty side by each making two different types of canapé in volume. Then they are sent on their biggest culinary adventure yet – to the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife. With its own unique cuisine, Tenerife is a crossroads between Europe, Africa and the Americas. The celebrities experience ingredients and cooking techniques they have never seen or heard of before as they try to recreate popular and iconic Canarian dishes to serve to the locals. One team makes a traditional Canarian rabbit stew, mojos (or sauces) and gofio (an ancient grain which is an island staple), while the other prepares two Canarian fish dishes. Guiding them are brothers and restaurateurs Mario and Fabian Torres, whose restaurant on the island has been in the family for three generations.
Then the celebrities have the honour of working under Tenerife’s most acclaimed chef, Erlantz Gorostiza, of Restaurant Martin Berastegui at the Ritz Carlton, the only chef in the Canary Islands to have earned two Michelin stars. The celebrities will have to quickly get their head around his cutting edge modern gastronomy and techniques as they will each be cooking a dish from chef Erlantz’s menu. There’s no room for error and each one needs to stand out to prove they have what it takes to be crowned champion.
