24/10/19: The Brexit deal and fishing, Maize and cover crops, Apple agroforestry
Professor Richard Barnes tells Caz Graham why the Brexit deal might give Northern Ireland fishing communities an advantage over the rest of the United Kingdom.
Farming Today is examining what the Brexit deal means for the rural community and today it's the turn of fishing. Professor Richard Barnes from the University of Hull tells Caz Graham why the deal could potentially irritate fishing communities as it potentially gives Northern Ireland access to markets into which the rest of the United Kingdom cannot sell. Caz reports from a farm in Cumbria which has experimented with growing cover crops beneath Maize and asks what the benefits are for both the grower and the soil. For 'top fruit' week Nancy Nicolson has been to a farm in Fife to meet a farmer who has planted apple trees amongst his arable crops.
