Charlotte Smith attends the National Fruit show in Kent to meet the growers and hear about the changing face of the tree fruits industry: apples, pears and plums. She hears how a shortage of labour to pick the fruit has been a particular challenge this year, with reports of fruit left rotting on the trees. The innovation area at the show features start-up companies using technology to help reduce food waste, and includes a company which has developed drones that fly over orchards to accurately measure yields.
Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
