Souls and Celebrations

Music reflecting the joys of living and the souls of the departed in a half hour uninterrupted sequence ranging from Ravel and Durufle to Joplin and Arlen

Reflecting the season of All Saints and All Souls, the In Tune mixtape weaves its unbroken way through ravishing requiems and languid laments by Maurice Durufle and Frank Bridge, mixed with joyous bursts celebrating life in dances from Malcolm Arnold and Aram Khachaturian. The struggle and fragility of existence flutters into view in Ravel's depiction of moths and Scott Joplin's rag "The Strenuous Life", and in the haunting score to the film American Beauty. But the sequence ends optimistically with Harold Arlen's show stopper "Get Happy", as we all travel together to the Promised Land.
