Episode 2

In this special episode, Ben Fogle and Kate Humble celebrate the life of the park's silverback gorilla, Nico. The meerkats turn escape artists, and the tigers get a tasty treat.

Ben Fogle and Kate Humble are back at Longleat Safari Park for a very special episode celebrating the life of Nico, the park's legendary western-lowland silverback gorilla who died at an extraordinary 56 years old. The keepers who looked after Nico during his three decades at the park share what it was like to build a relationship with such a powerful primate. And we reveal the story of his life before ‘Gorilla Island’ as our team uncovers information charting a global shift in wildlife conservation.

We also pay tribute to the powerful bonds formed between keepers and animals around the park. Tina tries to help a mammoth moose under attack from some pesky birds, while James gets stuck into the stinkiest poop on the park in a bid to stop his mischievous meerkats from escaping. Kate gives two Siberian tigers some nutritious treats, while elsewhere in the carnivore department our cameras reveal whether romance is blossoming between the park's young pair of European wolves.

Finally, we discover how Nico’s death affected thousands of visitors, all moved by their own encounters with the 'lord of the lake'.
