Christmas Tables, Marston's Beer, Food Delivery Apps
There's napkin folding... and then there's tablescapes. How much effort do you make with the Christmas table?
There's napkin folding... and then there's tablescapes. How much effort do you make with the Christmas table? In the US, a recently launched company rents out all the themed tableware and decorations you need for your party, and picks it all up again the next day. It'll cost you at least 40 dollars per guest. Whilst most of us won't spend that much on the decorations, Christmas might be the one time of year that we dust off the special dinner plates and glassware, and scatter a bit of holly across the tablecloth. We talk about the history of table decorating, let us know what you do at home.
Marston's Brewery has been accused of not giving accurate information about the number of pints in their barrels. Marstons' pubs are run by tenants, who must buy their beer directly from the brewery in return for a lower rent. One tenant has challenged Marston's over the number of pints that can be sold from each barrel, as around 5% turns out to be sediment. The regulator, the Pubs Code Adjudicator has agreed that pub owning companies must give their tenants realistic figures for how much beer they can expect to sell.
Food delivery apps have changed the way we order takeaway, and who we buy it from. According to a Deloitte report, the introduction of UberEats has seen close to an extra million meals being delivered in London alone. Over 300,000 of those meals were ordered from independent businesses. We speak to an independent restaurant owner and the pros and cons of delivery apps, and whether they really put you on a level playing field with the big chains.
