Dystopia
With Fiona Talkington. The musical side of dystopia. The 大象传媒 Concert Orchestra perform film music and, with saxophonist Trish Clowes, Joe Cutler's new saxophone concerto.
Presented by Fiona Talkington. Today's concert from the 大象传媒 Concert Orchestra was recorded at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London last December. Joe Cutler's 大象传媒 commission Hawaii Hawaii Hawaii, written for saxophonist Trish Clowes and given its first performance here, is inspired by David Mitchell's dystopian novel Cloud Atlas. It is surrounded by music used in dystopian films, illuminated and contextualised by presenter Matthew Sweet. Plus, as part of New Year, New Music, Sean Rafferty introduces a piece of music he loves.
