Children’s Liver Disease Foundation
Childhood liver disease is rare, complex and can be very isolating. It is also a lifelong condition. So when young people leave the familiarity of paediatric medical care and are responsible for managing their condition for themselves, it’s not always easy and the consequences can be fatal.
Children’s Liver Disease Foundation provides a range of services to help ensure a successful transition from childhood to adulthood. We offer support, give out practical information, put young people in touch with each other, and provide advice to parents too.
Lucy’s story
Lucy who has kindly shared her story with us, knows all about the pitfalls of going it alone with a serious liver condition. Through Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, she has taken part in a film making project with other young people, who understand her and now form part of her support network. Lucy now takes great care of herself and advises others to do the same.
Information you can trust
The Foundation is a source of reliable and practical information from all aspects of living with liver disease – from travelling abroad to coping with university and starting work. Our young people’s officer provides one to one emotional support and guidance over the phone, via email and face to face.
Building support
We run unique residential events where young people with liver disease can meet each other, share experiences and know they are not alone. Lasting friendships are formed as young people support each other and realise that they may have to live with their liver condition, but it does not define them.
