Joe Brown picks his final Tracks of My Years
Celebrating 60 years in the music business Joe Brown MBE selects the Tracks of My Years with music from Chas & Dave and Lonnie Donegan. Plus Ken has another round of PopMaster.
Joe Brown MBE picks his Tracks of My Years with songs from Chas & Dave and Lonnie Donegan. He's one of our great guitar pioneers, champion of the ukulele and king of the British rock 鈥榥鈥 roll scene of the sixties. With his trademark cheeky smile and spikey haircut he鈥檚 filled the Royal Albert Hall, played Glastonbury and has just celebrated an amazing sixty years in the music business with a 3 month nationwide tour. Joe was born in Lincolnshire but when he was two his parents moved to Plaistow to run an East End pub 鈥 The Sultan. Joe鈥檚 first job was with British Rail as a steam locomotive fireman in the Plaistow works in the 1950s. But music was his first love and in his spare time he formed a skiffle band called The Spacemen. Then he heard a new singer 鈥 Little Richard - and Joe鈥檚 love of rock and roll was born. As a session guitarist - his early career highlights include playing with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Johnny Cash. Then Joe was signed up by the legendary impresario Larry Parnes and as "Joe Brown and the Bruvvers" he had a string of hits including 鈥淎 Picture of You鈥 , 鈥淚t Only Took A Minute鈥 and 鈥淭hat鈥檚 What Love Will Do鈥. On one of their early tours the Beatles were the support act 鈥 and George Harrison became a good friend.
Joe鈥檚 career included regular tv and radio appearances, films and he even appeared on the West End stage in the David Heneker musical 鈥淐harlie Girl鈥.
Ken's got another round of the legendary PopMaster music quiz and your dedications with today's love song. There's also the record and album of the week.
