Stowmarket and Leicester
The team create two gardens for ex-soldiers: a poppy-filled family garden for 23-year veteran Jason and a stylish bachelor space for Paul, who lost part of his arm in combat.
In this episode, the team have been called up to create two gardens for ex-soldiers, one in Leicester and the other on the east coast in Stowmarket.
After a career serving all over the world, army veteran Jason, his wife Esther and their four children have finally put down roots in Suffolk, but the trouble is that their garden literally has no roots - it’s little more than a concrete car park. Not surprisingly, the military is a big part of this family’s life, as Jason was in the army for 23 years, so one specific request for this ex-army dad is that the garden features some remembrance poppies.
Meanwhile, in Leicester ex-serviceman Paul has put the finishing touches to his smart bachelor pad, but he’s at a loss to know what to do with his small but useful back yard, which is currently a depressing sea of gravel and paving, with only one redeeming feature – an elegant curved brick perimeter wall. Can Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers come up with the perfect plan for a relaxing and stylish garden that could also double up as a place for Paul, who now works as a personal trainer, to put his clients through their paces? There’s also a special proviso: having lost part of his left arm whilst serving in the British Army, highly independent Paul needs the design to be something he can take care of himself.
