Finding your flow
For Lee Craigie its why she rides, for Debi Gliori its why she draws and writes and for Dave Macleod it helps him climb safely but what is 'flow' and how can we all find it.
There's a rare and beautiful moment when top endurance athlete Lee Craigie is riding her bike when everything just slots into place. Decisions become easy, a tough and technical route becomes almost smooth and everything seems possible. Lee calls it 'flow' and its something she seeks whenever she gets on her bike. But like the best things in life flow is elusive. The more you look for it, the harder it is to find. You can't manufacture it, its something which mysteriously appears and disappears irrespective of need or desire.
So in this Life Cycle Lee jumps on her bike to find out who else is a flow follower liker herself. Children's writer and illustrator Debi Gliori certainly shares Lee's passion for flow but also her despair when its gone. She mourns it. For top climber Dave Macleod its to be found clinging to a vertical drop, in a place most of us would find anything but peace and calm. Comedian Bruce Morton likens it to feeling like you're floating across the floor during a gig, almost like an out of body experience.
So what's the key to finding flow in all our lives, those pockets of peace and balance? Some of the answers you might find surprising.
