Donald Runnicles conducts Bruckner

Donald Runnicles conducts the 大象传媒 SSO in Bruckner's Symphony No 8 and they are joined by soprano Carolyn Sampson for a work by French composer Henri Dutilleux.

Bruckner's majestic, long, death-haunted 8th Symphony is performed tonight with the particular drama an opera conductor, like Donald Runnicles, can bring to its epic span. And the 大象传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra open the concert with a colourful, sensuous work by 20th-Century French composer Henri Dutilleux. His cycle of songs and interludes, Correspondances, sets mystical epistolary texts from writers ranging from Rilke to Van Gough. They will be brought into glimmeringly lyric life this evening by soprano Carolyn Sampson.
