The Gandhi coin, cricket preview and Calypso Caliphate
Should Gandhi be the first non-white person to be on British money? Reports suggest The Royal Mint is considering making a coin to commemorate the Indian figurehead Mahatma Gandhi.
Qasa Alom runs through the latest coronavirus news with our reporter Dil Neiyyar. Moving on to sports news Ankur Desai joins Qasa from his bio-bubble ahead of the England v Pakistan test cricket match with the PCB's managing director Wasim Khan. After that it's the big question of the day as Qasa asks the listeners - should Gandhi be the first non-white person to be on British money? The Royal Mint is said to be working on making a coin to commemorate the leader and hero of India's freedom movement Mahatma Gandhi. Later, we hear from a volunteer who has been injected with a coronavirus vaccine as part of the trials being run through Oxford University. Plus, Qasa speaks to Equalities Minister Kemi Badenoch about the new restrictions placed on the North of England. Finally, Qasa hears a special report called 'Calypso Caliphate' from Poonam Taneja who travelled to the island of Trinidad to find out why so many Muslims left the Caribbean for Islamic State group鈥檚 self-declared caliphate. She speaks to the families they left behind and discovers their strong links to Britain and asks the Trinidad and Tobago government if the children, who are currently languishing in Syrian detention camps, can ever return.
