With Sally Magnusson
With an online EIBF, looking at the effects the pandemic has had on writers with Val McDermid, Nikita Gill and Dr Gavin Francis and bringing Gaelic psalm singing to a new audience.
As the 2020 Edinburgh International Book Festival moves online we look at the changed nature of literary festivals this year, and at the many effects the pandemic has had on writers. Sally will be joined by: crime writer Val McDermid; ‘instapoet’ and soon-to-be debut novelist Nikita Gill and non-fiction writer and Edinburgh GP Gavin Francis.
The return to the classroom for many children and young people across the country will have raised mixed feelings and emotions; but what about those children who require additional support to ensure that their school experience is all it can be? Sally is joined by Miriam Gwynne, mother to 12 year old twins Isaac and Naomi, to find out how coronavirus restrictions have impacted on them and their return to school.
Every day we are seeing monumental changes to our planet as a result of climate change. Authors, Alastair McIntosh and Andri Snaer Magnason, both suggest in their respective new books, that we have to look deep inside ourselves, beyond the technology and reflect on our humanity to make effective change.
As part of our series on the things that give us inspiration and sustenance, we’re joining poet and playwright Hannah Lavery on a beach walk.
‘The Edge of the Sea’ album features two new works by composers, Craig Armstrong and Calum Martin, with Gaelic Psalm singing performed by a congregation from the Isles of Lewis and Harris along with the Scottish Ensemble. Sally and her guests reflect on this new album and the importance of our musical heritage and traditions.
