Sir Christopher Hampton on The Singapore Grip, review of Three Kings, starring Andrew Scott, and Inside the Zoo
Oscar-winning screenwriter Sir Christopher Hampton and actor Elizabeth Tan discuss new World War 2 set drama, The Singapore Grip, plus a review of Andrew Scott in Three Kings.
Oscar-winning screenwriter Sir Christopher Hampton and actor Elizabeth Tan talk about the new six part adaptation of JG Farrell’s novel of the same name on ITV this weekend, The Singapore Grip. Set in Singapore during World War 2, just before the Japanese invasion, and with an all-star cast, it centres on a British family who own a rubber company and who don’t believe their way of life is threatened by the coming storm.
Actor Andrew Scott, of Sherlock and Fleabag, last weekend starred in Three Kings in an empty auditorium at the Old Vic in London. The play was written especially to be performed that way at this time. It was live streamed, and watching it for The Afternoon Show were actor Cal Macaninch and theatre reviewer Mark Fisher. They’ll be joining Janice to talk about the pros and cons of this way of delivering theatre, and if this is one of the few ways we will have to get used to experiencing it for the next few months.
Janice meets one of the zookeepers from the new big eight-part series from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland, Inside the Zoo, which gives fact-filled behind the scenes access to the keepers’ daily lives.
Glasgow Science Festival is happening this week in a digital format. Originally scheduled for June, the festival will present a Science on the Sofa strand, plus events exploring our current pandemic and highlighting all the work being done on Covid-19 by the Glasgow-based scientific community. Director of the festival, Dr Deborah O’Neill, will be talking to Janice.
And singer and musician Cara Rose discusses her new single and forthcoming EP.
