With Cathy Macdonald
Two hours of music and conversation with a faith and ethical perspective with writer Debbie Gliori, as well as a delve into the riches of the Take One Action Film Festival
Children’s author and illustrator Debi Gliori is in the middle of writing a book inspired by the true story of a returned Afghan war veteran who found himself homeless on the streets of Edinburgh. The chat between the two flowed and she joins Cathy to talk about the story she wants to tell which was inspired by those conversations.
The Take One Action Film Festival begins this week, exploring stories at the heart of positive social change. Cathy talks to programme selector, Tanatsei Gambura, about her festival highlights. One of them will be ‘Made In Bangladesh’ a drama about a young woman who sets about creating a union among the seamstresses in the garment factory where she works.
Sir David Attenborough’s latest documentary, Extinction: The Facts is due to be aired tonight. We’ll also be celebrating the earth with a project designed to bring together individuals and communities under the banner Celebration Earth. Cathy is joined by Gordon MacLellan who is one of the organisers, and contributor Fran Flett Hollinrake, a storyteller based in Orkney.
New research suggests that over half of LGBTQ+ people who have religious parents are not out - with 64% saying they struggle with suicidal thoughts, anxiety and depression. These findings are from the Naz and Matt foundation, which was set up by Matt Mahmood Ogden, after his fiance Naz took his own life two days after having a conversation with his religious family about his sexuality. Matt shares his story with us, along with Samera Ashraf, who grew up in a strict Muslim family and spent her teenage years denying her sexuality, and struggling with suicidal thoughts.
Musician Jill Brown joins Cathy for the launch of Scotland’s first record label for prisoners and ex-offenders.
