PopMaster and Michael Kiwanuka

Michael Kiwanuka picks the Tracks of My Years in an interview first broadcast in 2016. There's the daily love song, album of the week and more from PopMaster.

Michael Kiwanuka, recipient of The 2020 Mercury Prize and former ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sound Of...winner, picks this week's Tracks Of My Years.

The Mercury win was third time lucky for Michael after he was nominated for his first two albums, the second of which 'Love & Hate' went to number 1 and received a BRIT nomination.

Born to Uganda parents living in Muswell Hill in London, Michael studied jazz and worked as a session musician before finally deciding to go solo. As a young musician, he was repeatedly told to choose a new name to make him "more marketable", but he refused, and with cool self-assuredness, called his latest album 'Kiwanuka'.

Michael first came to widespread attention after topping the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s coveted 'Sound Of....' poll in 2012, and his first two albums - 'Home Again' and 'Love & Hate' were both lavished with praise. Michael's next two tracks come from Eric Clapton and Shuggie Otis.

Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk.
