Phillip Schofield

Phillip Schofield joins Zoe to chat about his autobiography and incredible TV career from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Broom Cupboard on children's TV to the West End and This Morning .

Philip Schofield, one of the UK's biggest TV presenters, joins Zoe Ball to talk about his autobiography; 'Life's What You Make It'. As a young boy Phillip would make model TV sets out of cardboard boxes, while spending long summers at home, barefoot on Cornwall’s golden beaches. Landing a job at the ice-cream kiosk, he would enviously look on as his presenting heroes took to the stage of Radio 1’s Roadshow, an unforgettable event when it came to town. He since went on to present in the now legendary ´óÏó´«Ã½ Broom Cupboard on children's TV alongside his infamous sidekick Gordon the Gopher. Then there was hit TV show Going Live and starring as the lead in Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in London's West End. He's been on our screens for four decades, hosting everything from Talking Telephone Numbers, The Cube, Dancing on Ice and of course, This Morning and now he's sharing his stories with Zoe.

Along with Jason K on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!

Speech and language therapist Janet Cooper has details of a brand new campaign from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ called ‘Tiny Happy People’, which is all about how children learn to talk. We’re looking for Radio 2 listeners with babies expected in January 2021, because we want to follow your stories as your babies grow and develop.

There's also a daily Pause For Thought from Jahnavi Harrison and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought
Writer and Musician, Jahnavi Harrison:
Thanks to my Canadian accent from my mum, people never normally realise I’m English. Sometimes even I wonder if I truly count – especially over here in America - where I feel like all accents are measured next to Harry Potter. I do score on the tea front though. Being a lover of a good cuppa, over this side of the pond people suddenly see me as a tea expert – of course, my ego is very happy to be thought of as an expert anything! But- it’s true at least - the first thing I do when I walk into the house, is put the kettle on. My memories are full of moments with my hands around a hot cup! Spicy, sweet chai at Indian railway stations, musty peppermint in Styrofoam cups on soggy camping trips, mug after mug when doing revision – of course, the perfect way to procrastinate.
Here in New Jersey, a dear friend and I, stumbled on a unique tea shop. Its owner, Feng Xiao, used to be a Buddhist nun in China, but after coming to America, she decided to stay, and introduce people to this aspect of ancient Eastern culture. Her shop is a little magic sanctuary– I was there just yesterday - full of all these beautifully wrapped parcels and teapots. She welcomes guests and if they want, she introduces them to the traditional Chinese tea ceremony. I would just say, I thought I knew tea but after that experience, I felt like it opened up a whole new dimension.
It’s meditative, with so much attention to detail - from the flat, small cups, painted with little fish inside, and you have the tray; the strainer, the little glass pouring jug… everything designed to make you pause and pay attention. As I left, I was thinking about how a cup of tea, can be more than just a cup of tea. A moment of prayer, a pause for meditation, before I eat my lunch, before I drive my car, when I wash my hands…it doesn’t have to take long, but I feel more whole when I bring the sacred into these little moments…whether silently reciting a mantra, or just listening to the sound of the hot water as it hits the cup… so, it may be 4.20 in the morning here on the East Coast, but it’s never to early to put the kettle on...
