Halloween Scream Queens, The Story of The Guitar Man – Sam Li and Film Reviews

Author Mark Eglinton on his new book: The Guitar Man – Sam Li

Halloween is approaching(!)…and so is the 40th anniversary of the release of The Fog!

..and also the 40th anniversary of two other JAMIE LEE CURTIS shockers; Prom Night and Terror Train! In fact her first six films, (the above three and Halloween, Halloween II and Road Games - all completed by 1981) - established her as the pre- eminent SCREAM QUEEN of Hollywood!

With spookily good timing, Grant Stott talks to Regular Afternoon Show Arts critic and horror film aficionado Ian Hoey about her early career - as arguably the greatest Scream Queen ever - and The Fog in particular!!

Author Mark Eglinton will be on hand too to discuss his new book: The Guitar Man – Sam Li - the inspirational story of a man who has become a cult figure in the guitar world. He left his Caribbean roots in 1959, as part of the Windrush programme, and travelled to the UK to find himself at the epicentre of an exploding music scene, and where carved a niche for himself as the go-to guy for guitar repairs in London. Along the way he became associated with some of music’s most iconic instruments (Peter Green’s legendary ’59 Les Paul Standard to name just one!)

Lola Lennox talks to Grant about her new single and her famous 'mammy', and Actor Richard Armitage will discuss how the West End stage production of Uncle Vanya got a Cinema release this week!

In the film hour critics EDDIE HARRISON & GAIL TOLLEY share their thoughts on Shirley – a bewitching biopic of Shirley Jackson, one of the greatest horror writers of the 20th Century, from the brilliant mind of director Josephine Decker and executive producer Martin Scorsese.

They will also discuss - Mogul Mowgli starring Riz Ahmed -which is garnering great reviews and has been described as a ‘profound drama about culture, family and what it means to represent a community’

And just in time for Halloween, a cult classic currently screening on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer –– The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall – be afraid!!
