Chief Fire Officer and psychologist Sabrina Cohen-Hatton discusses her own personal experience of leadership with Bethan Rhys Roberts.

At 15 and still at school, Sabrina Cohen-Hatton was homeless and sleeping rough on the streets of Newport. Through grit, determination and good decision-making, she turned things around. She took her GCSEs, became a firefighter, completed a degree and Ph.D in psychology and is today the Chief Fire Officer of West Sussex.

She has devoted much of her career to improving the decision-making capabilities of firefighters and her pioneering work is now applied in fire and rescue services across the UK. In this programme, Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton discusses leadership and how her own personal experiences – from sleeping rough to leading firefighting teams under immense pressure – have influenced her way of thinking.
