Jess Glynne
Jess Glynne's released a cover of festive favourite 'This Christmas' and chats to Zo about how it came to be.
Jess Glynne, the Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter is back with a cover of the festive classic 'This Christmas'. It's a soulful cover of Donny Hathaway鈥檚 original single first released in 1970 and the Grammy Award winning Dap-Kings provide a signature riff on the horns. Jess chose to cover this track because she loves the tone. She hopes this uplifting, feel-good song will provide a form of escapism. Jess holds the UK chart record for the most UK number ones for a British Female ever, with seven number one singles. She has had over 3 million album sales worldwide and has 11 million Spotify listeners.

Pause For Thought
![Pause For Thought](https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/160x90/p06t6fx6.jpg)
I鈥檝e been on a mission this year - when allowed - to take more of a walk on the wild side. Challenge myself to venture out beyond my comfort zone in the city and explore remoter terrain. So I鈥檝e climbed a few mountains. Tramped along woodland trails. Swam in freezing seas on Yorkshire鈥檚 East Coast. It鈥檚 done me the world of good. Revived my spirits and blasted fresher air into my lungs. I just wish our twins shared my new-found enthusiasm for the great outdoors. I had such high hopes for us. Harboured romantic visions of fun and educational family hikes. No chance.聽
We鈥檝e only managed a few short walks. They were soundtracked by the constant tag-teaming of 鈥楾his is boring!鈥 The girls usually reserve that line for my sermons. So our 鈥榝un and educational鈥 family time has now reverted back to watching episodes of The Simpsons. For now, exploring the outdoors will be a lone pursuit. I鈥檝e been taking inspiration from the great American poet Mary Oliver. The rich landscape where she lived was her poetic muse. Every day she鈥檇 get out early with her notebook to listen, watch and write about nature鈥檚 little taken-for-granted glories. Like geese taking flight and lilies breaking open on pond water. Mary called it the 鈥榬ich lens of attention鈥. Her poems are full of sacred depth, too. She found her wordless observations the most powerful kind of prayers. I think she was onto something. I鈥檝e been motivated to get up early to walk, pray - and pay closer attention to my world. Escaping the house without tripping over the girls鈥 scooters or treading in guinea pig poo has been a challenge. And I鈥檓 yet to find the poetic potential in the dawn chorus of our noisy refuse collectors. But my walks have been significant. An unexpected gift. For instance, I鈥檇 never heard the glorious sunrise performance of the little blackbird perched on our neighbour鈥檚 chimney. I鈥檝e felt spiritually uplifted, too.聽
Less distracted and more present with God. Prayers somehow feeling more listened to. My favourite Mary Oliver poem, closes with the question: 鈥榃hat is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?鈥 Well, my morning wanderings are certainly helping me to find some answers. Now if only I could get those twins interested, Zoe.
