Annabel Maclennan investigates loneliness amongst young and old in the Highlands and Islands and the effect coronavirus restrictions have had on a growing problem. Annabel also looks at the impact the University of the Highlands and Islands has had as it approaches ten years since it was awarded university title. The university is a regional, multi-campus institution consisting of 13 colleges and over 70 learning centres.

University of the Highlands and Islands
February 2021 will mark 10 years since the University of the Highlands and Islands was granted university title. The university is a regional, multi-campus institution consisting of 13 colleges and over 70 learning centres. It is not a traditional university as it offers bother higher and further education. Annabel Maclennan investigates the impact this institution has had on the Highlands and islands.

Loneliness
Age Scotland has reported that 100,000 older people in Scotland feel lonely all or most of the time. Despite the common perception that loneliness only affects the elderly, it is a social problem that knows no age barrier. A survey by the Mental Health Foundation found that around a quarter of young people feel lonely.  In the second of her reports, Annabel investigates the impact of loneliness on young and old and the effect Coronavirus restrictions have had on a growing problem.
