Mozart in Bath and Bradford-on-Avon (4/4)

Sarah Walker presents highlights from the Bath Mozart Minifest 2020, including Beethoven鈥檚 Razumovsky Quartet and a fantasia by Mozart.

Sarah Walker introduces highlights from the Bath Mozart Minifest 2020, with concerts recorded at the Wiltshire Music Centre, Bradford-on-Avon. This final concert of this week of lunchtimes, begins with Mozart鈥檚 Fantasia in C minor, based largely on manuscript fragments edited by Abb茅 Maximilian Stadler, originally intended to be performed by violin and piano. The concert end with Beethoven鈥檚 iconic Razumovsky Quartet, the String Quartet in F major, Op 59 No 1. This quartet, along with two others, was commissioned by Count Andreas Razumovsky for performance by his own private quartet, but from the opening bars, it is clear that here was Beethoven writing something new and pushing musical boundaries at the time.
