LSO St Luke's Artist Focus Series (4/4)

Exciting young pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, in a recital recorded at LSO St Luke's in London in June, performs music by Schumann and Ravel.

Ian Skelly introduces the fourth and final concert in a series recorded at LSO St Luke's in London in June, featuring hugely talented British musicians. Benjamin Grosvenor has been described as "one in several million" and today he treats us to music by Robert Schumann and Ravel. Schumann's Kreisleriana was written after a character in one of ETA Hoffmann鈥檚 stories, each short movement showing a different side to his character, and was one of Schumann's favourite of his own compositions. Ben follows this with one of the most formidable works of the piano repertoire, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit. It's inspired by a set of poems that tell of a Persian medieval character called Gaspard, the man in charge of the dark and mysterious treasures of the night.

Presented by Ian Skelly.
