Jo chats to DJ Annie Mac about her new debut novel Mother Mother.

Mother Mother is the debut novel of Annie Macmanus, aka Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac. She describes the book as being 鈥渁 story about family ties, addiction, the resilience of women and the teflon-strength bond that can exist between a mother and a son. It is about the cost of unconditional love, but also about finding light in the darkest of places.鈥�

Mother Mother follows a young woman, Mary McConnell. Mary has lived in the same Belfast house her whole life, caring for everyone around her to the detriment of herself; but one morning, her 18-year-old son TJ awakes to find her missing. As his search for her becomes increasingly desperate, he begins to discover what has led her to this point.

The story asks an important question - if you spend your life giving everything to the ones you love, do you risk losing yourself along the way?
