Ego Ella May Interview
Jamie is joined by Mobo Award-winning singer-songwriter Ego Ella May, to talk about her musical roots, finding inspiration for lyrics and her debut album Honey For Wounds.
Jamie鈥檚 guest on the show this week is the soulful singer-songwriter Ego Ella May!
Entranced by jazz vocalists from a young age, this South London musician learnt by emulating the greats before finding her own unique voice and way to tell her story. Her recent music is a lyrically fascinating mix of jazz, RnB and neo-soul, and has been crafted with a stellar range of contemporary players including Alfa Mist, Theo Croker and Joe Armon-Jones.
A year on from releasing her debut album Honey For Wounds, she is back with a deluxe edition including some new remixes and acoustic versions of the tracks which helped her win Best Jazz Act at the 2020 Mobo Awards.
Ego Ella May tells Jamie about loving Sarah Vaughan at school whilst her friends were into Destiny鈥檚 Child, why Stevie Wonder was her first singing teacher and the importance of writing meaningful lyrics
