The women's singles tennis competition gets underway with world number one and Venus Rosewater Dish holder Ashleigh Barty playing Sara Sorribes Tormo on the hard courts of Tokyo. The 'Barty Party' has been in full flow since her win in SW19 and she's looking to go for gold.
Naomi Osaka is returning to the highest level of tennis after pulling out of the French Open and Wimbledon. She lit the stadium flame during the opening ceremony on Friday and is one of the favorites for women's singles gold.
The duo, ranked one and two in the world, face Sara Sorribes Tormo and Zheng Saisai respectively as they get their women's singles campaigns underway.
