The Chineke! Chamber Ensemble performs music by Vaughan Williams and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

The Chineke! Chamber Ensemble makes its Scottish debut with two rarely heard works. Samuel Coleridge Taylor鈥檚 Nonet in F minor was written in London when he was only 18 and fast becoming one of the most noted composers of his day. It鈥檚 a lyrical work, rich in melody and harmony, written for strings, wind and piano. Coleridge-Taylor鈥檚 contemporary Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote his Piano Quintet in C minor roughly ten years later, in 1903 and revised it twice in the following years, however he later withdrew this early chamber work along with others and his widow embargoed its performance until the 1990s.
