As a shy 5-year-old, the sixth child in a family of 14, Constance June Meador once made the prophetic proclamation, 鈥淪omeday I鈥檓 gonna sing on the Grand Ole Opry!鈥� A member of the Opry since 1965, Connie Smith quickly made that dream a reality. Decades later, she continues to astonish audiences with a powerhouse voice that is one of the most respected and recognisable in country music.
She is Dolly Parton's favourite country singer, and is married to fellow country star Marty Stuart. Her new album, released on the Mississippi Fat Possum label, comes out tomorrow.
RCA Studio B, where Connie recorded the tracks you'll hear tonight, is one of the most famous recording studios in the world and home to literally thousands of hits by artists like Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Waylon Jennings and hundreds more, including Connie herself who recorded all her classic songs there.
