"Never had any money to go in..."
"I never had the money to get in," Sean admits. "I would have got as far as the jukebox."
"I used to run up the Carlisle road," says Maureen, who worked at the time at Tillie and Henderson's Shirt Factory, "up to Bap's cafe."
"That was the meeting place," Sean says, "for all the good-looking guys. When you walked in the door there were stalls on the left hand side, counter on the right, under the stairs there was a jukebox, and there were rooms upstairs for you to have your fish and chips. And I remember in the summer the favourite place was upstairs in Bap's. The guys would open the windows - all the heads, the Teddy boys, all the good-looking guys - and they would sit with their elbows out shouting to the girls. We could never go in. We never had the money. I would have got as far as the jukebox."
With music from Chris Montez, George Jones, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, and more.
