Rajan Datar travels by train along the southern United States to investigate the country's long and sometimes complex history with its southern neighbour and looks at the other influences that have helped shaped the region.
On a journey that covers over 2000 miles Rajan makes his way from New Orleans to Los Angeles and discovers the people and places that give this part of the USA its unique and diverse character. He meets the history enthusiasts who regularly stage a reconstruction of the Battle of the Alamo, visits Big Bend National Park in New Mexico and learns about how Zydeco music from New Orleans paved the way for rock ’n’ roll and countless other musical styles.
