Ross and George

Can Jo and Melanie break some tough shopping habits to get a Leicester couple closer to their dream home? Jo tests shiatsu massagers, and does it pay to spend more on secateurs?

Jo Page and Melanie Sykes travel to Leicester to surprise a couple who are desperate to save money in order to buy their own home. After taking a sneaky peek around Ross and George鈥檚 flat, Jo and Melanie surprise them with a little shock treatment, setting up a pop-up shop filled with the unsuspecting couple鈥檚 belongings to show them where their hard-earned cash has been going.

Ross and George like to look and feel good, and they have become used to buying what they want, whenever they want it. With their pricey wardrobes and designer shoe collections, monthly massages and personal grooming routines, as well as a love of interiors, they need to start cutting back if they are going to be able to afford a deposit on their dream house. Having grown up in foster care, having their own home is especially important to Ross. Fortunately, Jo is on hand to discuss the additional costs of buying a property and to suggest where Ross and George can cut back in order to save for those often unexpected outgoings. As their flat has its own social media account, Melanie also talks to the couple about their relationship with social media. She wants them to realise they don鈥檛 need to continue spending as much as they do on their flat in order to increase their likes.

Melanie and Ross put three sewing machines through their paces, while Jo and George get a little pampering as they test out electric shiatsu massagers. A group that teaches workplace skills to adults with learning disabilities try out secateurs to see whether the priciest pair are picked as the group鈥檚 favourite ones. And can our Bristolian shoppers tell a cheaper fake orchid from a more expensive one without knowing their price tags?
