Greg Davies, Adam Peaty and Faye from Steps
Zoe chats to Greg Davies about his new ´óÏó´«Ã½ comedy, The Cleaner. Adam Peaty looks ahead to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games plus Faye from Steps on their Radio 2 Live set.
Zoe chats to comedian Greg Davies about his new ´óÏó´«Ã½ One comedy series, The Cleaner. Written by and starring Greg, The Cleaner follows Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead, a state-certified cleaning technician with a very special field of work - he is a crime-scene cleaner responsible for the removal of any signs of death. Armed with chemicals, scrubbing brushes and cleaning rags, Wicky removes the gruesome mess at the scene of the crime. When carrying out his duties, he stumbles across the strangest of people, from the victim’s relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances to occasionally even the murderers themselves. And because he’s a sociable type, he sometimes gossips more than he cleans!
Swimmer Adam Peaty, winner of two golds and a silver at Tokyo 2020, looks ahead to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the opening of the Main Ticket ballot, as well as his time on Strictly.
And Zoe speaks to Faye from Steps to reveal the next set to be released from Radio 2 Live, a series of exclusive concerts hosted across the UK, to celebrate the return of live music. Zoe’s releasing one fabulous set every day this week, from Texas, Westlife, Steps and Manic Street Preachers. Pause For Thought
I’ve spent the summer living in Manhattan, in probably one of the least likely places you’d everÌýfindÌýa girl who barely nudged a C for GCSE Maths - Wall Street! It just happened to be the location of a short term rental and it’s proven to be more interesting than I thought! The Dutch arrived to this spot in 1624 - which makes it not that old compared to England, my Dad loves saying, but still I never knew how many layers of history made up this area. In the 1800s it was the primary arrival and processing point for newÌýimmigrants to the city - the place where the hopeful and the helpless would first set foot on this island like no other.Ìý
Ìý
But of course, this area has a more recent significance. My grocery run takes me past the rows and rows of trees commemorating the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Next to them a huge square fountain sunk into the ground flows day and night, the stone carved with the names of those who were lost. In a few days, two columns of light will shine into the sky from that spot, honoring the twenty years that have passed.Ìý
Ìý
I always try to stop if I have a minute, put down my bags and say a little prayer. Sometimes it comes out in sacred words, sometimes it’s just my own simple ones, or just a pause in my usual mental chatter to remember how times of crisis and fear, often also bring out the best in people. How love, kindness, bravery and selflessness show up in unexpected ways – how in the middle of all the confusion and complication, how simple it can make life seem, how unimportant the things that normally occupy my mind.Ìý
But I still wonder - how will I respond when the inevitable waves of life hit? Martin Luther King said ‘Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.’ ButÌýI’ve been realizing that state of mind takes daily practice. My prayer is to not to wait for a crisis or tragedy, but right now, today, be always in ‘practice mode’, asking myself - what small kindness can I offer to others, where can I be of service, how will I love today?ÌýÌýBroadcast
