Leeds International Piano Competition 2021

Andrew McGregor and Katya Apekisheva introduce performances from the first two semi-finalists in the 2021 Leeds International Piano Competition.

'The Leeds' is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. It is now three years since Eric Lu took home the coveted first prize from the festival. Who will be the winner this time around? Andrew McGregor and former Leeds prize-winner Katya Apekisheva introduce performances from the first two of this year's semi-finalists, from the Great Hall of Leeds University, as the competition edges its way to this weekend's Concerto Finals. We hear from 22-year-old Thomas Kelly from the United Kingdom, who performs music by Claude Debussy and Franz Liszt: and 21-year-old Xiaolu Zang from China whose programme includes music by George Benjamin and Robert Schumann.
