The Rolex Fastnet Race takes place once every two years and is arguably the most famous offshore yachting event in the sailing calendar. On the 8th of August over 400 yachts took to the line in Cowes before passing the traditional landmarks the Needles, Portland Bill, Lands' End and the Scillies and the iconic rounding point of the Fastnet Rock off the southern coast of Ireland. The 49th edition of the race saw an historic change of race course as, for the first time ever, the finish was in France, in Cherbourg. This 695 nautical mile classic is an immense challenge for amateur and professional sailors alike, requiring flawless preparation, teamwork and the ability to demonstrate unrelenting physical and mental endurance.
