Dalia Stasevska conducts Dvorak's New World Symphony and Anna Thorvaldsdottir's Dreaming. And bass-baritone Dav贸ne Tines presents the UK premiere of his 鈥榙evised concerto鈥� Sermon.

2020 may prove pivotal in our collective journey towards racial justice. But in his 鈥榙evised work' Concerto No.1: SERMON, Dav贸ne Tines warns against complacency. The American bass-baritone weaves readings of texts by African American writers James Baldwin, Langston Hughes and jessica Care moore around arias by John Adams, Anthony Davis and by Tines and Igee Dieudonn茅. A post-2020 wake-up-call about discovering your potential, exhibiting your humanity and indicting your naysayers. The work contains racist language in reflecting its themes of inequality and injustice.
And there's more music that reflects the shared human experience. Started just months after the composer first docked in America, Dvo艡ak鈥檚 much-loved 鈥楴ew World鈥� Symphony was composed 鈥榠n the spirit鈥� of the nation鈥檚 own songs and spirituals. The 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra's Principal Guest Conductor opens her concert with Anna Thorvaldsd贸ttir鈥檚 hypnotic orchestral canvas Dreaming 鈥� an image of the orchestra as a living organism twisting through a kaleidoscope of colour and light.
