Fin-de-siecle Vienna, in Paris

Renaud Capucon joins the Orchestre de Paris in Berg鈥檚 poignant Violin Concerto, after which the orchestra plays Mahler鈥檚 5th Symphony, conducted by Klaus M盲kel盲.

Fiona Talkington presents one of the highlights of this year鈥檚 orchestral season.

Klaus M盲kel盲 conducts the Orchestre de Paris in Mahler鈥檚 5th Symphony, in which a death march is ultimately wrenched into a majestic affirmation, via the tender Adagietto which has become famous in its own right. Something similar happens in Berg鈥檚 Violin Concerto, dedicated 鈥渢o the memory of an angel鈥, in which the tragedy of bereavement is ultimately transfigured into a glimpse of the spiritual realm.
